Any reason my Pedal would be spongy any changing only front pads? I compressed the calipers so confused how air may have gotten in the lines
Awesome
When changing brake pads should i change rotors too?
we had a guy at work who lived down on shore in new jersey he used to drive on the wet sand to surf fish and one day his tire went flat he could not get his wheel off even removing the lug nuts and driving on it he was beating it for like 15 minutes to get aluminum wheel off the brake drum ever since i put some anti rust spray or never seez on my hubs and the wheel to rotor or drum surface.
@chrisfix how do you know if your car engine seat is worn or bad?
5:00 that old pad still had plenty of life lol
How to paint calipers red color
Question Chris when you open the bleeder valve to the caliper would you have to bleed the brakes again?
Chris – you inspired me to start doing some of my own maintenance on my vehicles.
Chris fix fixed my life
I just installed new rotors and pads and it’s making this light grinding/rubbing noise. Not sure what it is.
Hey Chris. 1st off you are awesome with all your videos. Love the detail and energy you put i to them, for real man, thank you.
I had a question about brake pads. I do my own and have been for years. But it seems as though the pads are super tight in getting into rhe springs. I have a 2017 jeep renegade. I just got done and had to just about use a hammer to pound them in. Shoukd i be cleaning all the steel where the clips snap into? Maybe the build up is not giving them room to just snap in like they use to? Any help would be appreciated man. Thanks in advance.
Grease the piston and the interior parts of the caliper to prevent noise. Also pump the brake pedal and add enough brake oil in the Master cylinder.
Tip 1: don’t mess up
Top notch tips.
TIP#11
CLEAN the caliper bracket where the hardware goes to hold the pads and allows the pads to slide evenly
1:30 wait a minute, what kind of shitty brake lines are they using on our cars. Are you telling me they can magically hold up to 2000 psi but you can’t fart or cough or hang a 15 pound caliper from it. Stop installing windshield wiper hose on our brakes. Install quality hydraulic hose that can actually hold 2000 psi and a 15 pound caliper will not damage it. That’s why our landfills are full because of poor value engineering.
Tip 11: when doing a BJ you gotta hawk tuah and spit on that thang
Do you replace your rotors every time you do the pads? Pretty sure my new rotors from about a year ago are still fine but I haven’t looked yet
Can tip #8 cause air go into brake line? When bleeding brake fluid from brake valve?
Chris you should consider re making some of these videos bro some mechanic tips on engines, suspensions, brakes, drum brakes, etc please you have my support
Thank you for an outstanding and very informative video.
Can we use Cooper anti seize on wheel hub? If not, why? Thank you!
Thanks for the video, helped me a lot.
Tip 12 send the break desk if it has if it has paint with the sandpaper
It’s important to have a few bong rips before any work has begun
It’s ok to apply break cleaner with the rim on? It’s bad for the rim?
I think that if you just open the cup of oil bottle then you don’t need to open the oil brake pipe
Tip #11 you can also open the master cylinder (brake fluid) cap instead of opening the bleeder when pressing the piston
How about the rear with pads
Thank you for sharing
Can I use ceramic grease for calliper slide pin instead of silicon grease?
Clean the caluoer of rust and replace and grease the metal guides
great tips!
Great tips!
ONE TIP EVERYONE FORGETS
While replacing the caliper and/or rotor, but find you must suspend the operation temporarily, many prefer to remount the wheel, and remove the jackstand. If you remount the wheel, make sure to remount the rotor, first. The rotor provides proper spacing on the wheel hub bolts for the remounted wheel.
If you forget to remount the rotor, the lug nuts will thread farther along each of the wheel mounting bolts, and the wheel may be difficult to remove when you resume work.
Chris you must be hiding the video where you convert drum to disc because I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.
I just performed my first major project on my car. This video was incredible in helping a beginner like me get through changing my brakes. Amazing video! Keep up the great work and thank you!
Great tips.
Brilliant tips, thank you
Chris’ Fix Equation:
Common sense + Chemistry knowledge x auto enginuity – $$$ = Chris Fix
good rotor removal from hub & good installation of new rotor on hub & good break caliper sliding pins lubrication with grease & good piston wall surface cleaning #

Hi, good video, though what nobody seems to do accurately is to point out exactly where the brake wear is. They flick the pad around their hand as if flushing playing cards …. Mechanics always show a pad with like two metal plates and one chunky side and one narrow side. What part is the brake pad? Need a diagram with arrows, because your pad looked to me like one side was side was totally worn and the other side totally good, but I think I am looking at it incorrectly. Love all your videos by the way. Much Love from Scotland,
X …
Nice one
Awesome! Good job explaining everything.
Thanks for the video Chris.

Final step – bed the brake pads.
I like your tips matey
